Strange Aeons New NPCs
Introduction
In order to
tie the players into the narrative better, I introduced two new NPCs. These directly
tie multiple player characters to the events prior to the start of the
campaign.
ZaphirA Lowls
The younger
sister of Count Hasteron Lowls
IV, and the result of Namira Lowls
affair with Clymes Prett. Despite
her family, Zaphira was a beautiful and innocent
young woman, albeit easily manipulated.
In 4713, Haserton convinced his sister to take part in a ritual to
contact Yog-Sothoth. This went horribly wrong and Zaphira was impregnated by Yog-Sothoth.
Three weeks later, she gave birth to twins, though “birth” may not be the
correct term, as the infants tore themselves from her womb, killing her in the
process.
The twins
were a Child of Yog-Sothoth (see Module 5) and a Spawn
of Yog-Sothoth. The Spawn features in Module 4,
and the Child is an excellent player character option (Blunder).
The players
never meet Zaphira, as she died three years before
the campaign starts, but she is integral to the events that followed.
Arthur Bennett
Arthur
Bennett is a fellow student of the esoteric to Count Lowls.
This NPC is inspired by the HPL story “The Thing on the Doorstep”.
Arthur has
been seeking immortality for generations, and has partially succeeded. He has
learned to how mind-swap with others, and thus can replace his aging and
failing body with fresh, youthful ones. However, his process is flawed; unless
the subject of the mind-swap is a direct descendant of his own, the body that
he inhabits starts to rot within a few weeks. His escaped son is another player
character option (William).
Arthur was
performing experiments to overcome this limitation. In order to perform these
experiments, he needed an ongoing supply of pubescent children. Count Lowls assigned Weiralai to aid
him, along with her lackey Klyn Murik
(see Module 2). Together they kidnapped dozens of children across the country,
often murdering their families.
