Strange Aeons Module 3
This module
has two separate timelines; activities in the real world and dream quests. I
created a general schedule for the journey to help keep track of where the
players were on any given day.
The
Dreamlands Excursion ritual has 5x DC 25 skill checks and creates a CR8 Animate
Dream upon failure (3+ fails). I deemed this excessively hard, especially at
level 7 (which the players start Module 3 at). I toned this down to DC20, which
made a lot more sense to me.
I had
Arthur Bennett standing on the prow of the Bloodwind
(encounter N) when it was seen at a distance. William suffered unreasoning
dread at this sight and had a couple of out-of-body experiences, looking out of
Arthur’s eyes and seeing the rotting flesh on his hands.
I5: be
prepared for the players to not attempt to rescue Maudette.
Consider in advance how the Viscount views this, and how any player’s
alignment/deity might be affected.
J1: if the zoog from Module 1 is among the party as a familiar, there
is a lot of fun to be had here.
Q2: I had the
Mad Poet, in his cryptic manner, explain the following
things to the players:
·
When admiring the gifts, the players may wonder why he
wants them, given he was given the same gifts by Count Lowls.
The Mad Poet explains, in his cryptic manner, that objects in dreams are
created from symbolism and metaphor, and thus their value is eternal regardless
of how often you have received them.
·
The Mad Poet scorns Count Lowls
as a fool, who is a puppet without realising that he has strings that other
beings are pulling. He informs the players that “his lackey, Mun, possessed items that would protect him in Neruzavin, ancient Elder Signs, but his arrogance blinded
him to them and they were cast aside, like old playthings”. This provides
motivation for the players to investigate Miacknian Mun’s house in Module 4, where they will find Elder Signs.
·
As the players are about to depart, the Mad Poet
provides one last piece of advice; “You would be well advised to seek the slave
Kaklatath in the slave markets of Okeno.
I will say no more than this.”
